KLA-Tencor была образована в 1997 году в результате слияния KLA Instruments и Tencor Instruments, двух компаний, занимающихся производством полупроводникового оборудования и систем управления доходностью. Компания KLA Instruments была основана в 1975 году Кеном Леви и Бобом Андерсоном и сосредоточилась на решениях для проверки дефектов. Карел Урбанек основал Tencor Instruments в 1977 году с упором на метрологические решения, позже к нему присоединился Джон Швабахер в качестве соучредителя. Производственные мощности KLA включают глобальную штаб-квартиру в Милпитасе, Калифорния, а также производственные, вспомогательные и научно-исследовательские центры в различных местах в США, Индии, Европе, Израиле, Японии и Азиатско-Тихоокеанском регионе.
